Ultimate Careers (V4)

The end of career rabbitholes is here! With Ultimate Careers, instead of going into a rabbithole to work, Sims will spend the work day at a community lot, doing work-related interactions - or slacking off. The mod scans the Sim's interaction queue, and increases performance depending on which interactions are being used.

  • However, please note the following mistake: the correct way to assign Sims to a lot is using "Add Career or School" - "Assign Manual Sims" is for assigning individual Sims to a lot different from their usual one, and is intended for storytelling purposes.

You can report a bug in the comments. Please also state what other mods are using, and what career(s) you're trying to enable.

Please read below before reporting, as your bug may already be explained.

Technical Restrictions

Some features are restricted due to technical reasons.
  • Sims will not be recognized by the game as "at work". Instead, they will be given a fake "unpaid day off" about two hours before the work day starts.
  • The carpool will not function on open careers because it's attached directly to the EA default "go to work" interaction, which takes Sims to the rabbithole.
  • I had to use a cheap workaround to handle inviting Sims currently at work to lots. The Sim may accept the invitation, but you will then be given a notification that the Sim can't make it, after you've invited them. This was the only way around the issue.
  • The "Go to Work" button in the UI will no longer function.
Expansion Pack Requirements

Although the mod should work with only the base game, you may need expansion packs (especially University Life, which has the most objects used by the mod) to get the full experience.

Compatibility with Other Mods

  • Ultimate Careers has been tested with NRaas StoryProgression and seems to work correctly. Please note that you'll probably get a lot more co-workers than usual if you use NRaas StoryProgression. There does seem to be a rare glitch where Sims will be pushed to leave the career lot, but they'll immediately be pushed back and their autonomy won't be effected afterwards, so it's a non-severe issue.
  • Cherry92's Cancel Time Off mod should work, as long as you don't use it to cancel the fake day off the mod assigns Sims before they go to work (I see no reason why you'd WANT to do this in the first place unless you were deliberately trying to see what happens).
  • Ultimate Careers version 2 replaces the "Work from Home" interaction with a custom version that is disabled during work hours, and will conflict with other mods that edit the interaction.
  • If used with NRaas Dresser, Sims may end up randomly switching out of their career outfits. Inactive Sims will switch back, but the constant changes may be annoying. There doesn't seem to be any way to fix this.

Opportunities

Opportunities are not included in the mod, due to the complicated amount of code needed to properly mark them as achieved.

Lifetime Rewards

The mod is compatible with the work-related lifetime rewards.
  • Office Hero - Gives Sims a +20 moodlet, which also increases all social skills, while at work.
  • Vacationer - If a Sim has this lifetime reward, their career performance will not decrease when they're not on the career lot.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset - Performance increase from work interactions will be higher than usual.
  • MultiTasker - Performance increase from work interactions will be higher than usual, though not as much as Entrepreneurial Mindset (there are, however, core features of the lifetime reward that aren't related to the mod).
  • Professional Slacker - Performance will not decrease when not using work interactions. However, it will still decrease when off the lot.
Traveling

Previously, if a Sim travelled during a work day, the work day will automatically end. Since version 4, the method for ending work days has changed so that it will automatically end whenever it's not the valid work hours (as opposed to ending at an exact time) so it should be safe to travel even while the work day is still going. I wouldn't recommend doing that, but it's up to you.

Career Outfits

By default, inactive Sims will automatically switch into career outfits, but it will be optional for active Sims. This can be changed in the tuning file.

Time Off

Time off work - both paid and unpaid - will function normally. However, if you want unpaid time off, you must request it before the work day activates two hours before the work hours begin. Holidays from Seasons will also function correctly.

  4. Maybe i'm doing something wrong...Ive never installed any of the previous versions so this would be the first time that I am installing this mod, but it is not working for me...help pls.

  5. Hey I was just wondering if you could show a step by step tutorial on this, because for some odd reason mine doesnt work. I searched all over youtube and google to see how it works :S
    So i built my (journalism/business) building from scratch and placed a rabbit hole rug made by Cazarupt
    i clicked on the building and on Zerbu, and made that building into journalism.
    I hired myself and i used the objects and my job perfomance wont increase, also it says im missing work when i stay in the building trying to use the objects :S

  6. I love your mod and this is my first time trying (I wish that I found it sooner)...However, I don't know how to set it to work. I built a rabbit hole building (school & diner), putting rabbit hole rugs on the lot of course, but my sim keeps disappear on the rugs when going to work or diner etc. (like entering the game rabbit hole buildings). What did I do wrong? I even tried to build a 4 x 4 room for the rug, but my sim won't go at all instead...yelling. PLEASE HELP!

    1. Hi,
      I had the same Problem and I don´t know if the nraas description worked for anyone. In the end I figured out, that the fact, that is not necessary to put the rug in the building (your designed working place), is the key. Instead I put the Rug in another Building. Afterwards I clicked on the wall of my workingplace and selected the career I wanted. Afterwards I send my sim to the place with the rug and gave him his job. The next day he attended my new made building. There wasn´t anymore this stupid rug, where he could diappear :-). The Mod transfered my sim from the rug where I wanted my Sim to work :-). Sometimes I had troubles and than I added my Sim (who had already his carrer) manually to the building - click on the wall, nraas and than add sim. But my problem that my sim didn´t increased his job performance. Maybe a problem with 1.69 patch :-(. At least with one of the tuning Mods of NRAAS he didn´t lost his job imediatley for coming late to work. I hope, I could help at least a bit, even I am late :-).

  7. Im brand new to this and already im having trouble, I went to city hall enabled the job for all lots.I placed the rabbit hole in the basement i get my sim the job, but when i click on the rabbit to assign the mod i don't see zerbu in my menu at all. What i'm i doing wrong?

    1. The menu for career assignments appears on lots, not rabbitholes. Rabbitholes already contain the careers, but you need to assign them to lots so the mod will know what lot Sims should work on.

      If you want to assign the career to the same lot as a rabbithole which hides the lot maptag, you can select the lot by clicking on an empty area of the wall.

  8. I want to report a bug which might be related to the mod. my sim was given a few days off after getting married but it's not being recognized. he's not being pushed to go to the assigned lot but he is getting the "missing work" moodlet and his work performance is dropping

    1. How soon before work were you given the days off? Once the mod assigns the fake day off to the Sim (about just under two hours before work) the mod recognizes it is a work day and real days off added after that won't count until the next day. The days off you received should start working the next work day though.

He probably didn't get the days off that soon before work because he goes to work at 8 or 9 in the morning and I threw a wedding party so it can't be that early in the morning.I use master controller to switch between households, could it be because of that?after the wedding I switched to another household and when I switched back he still had days off before going back to work.I'll try it again maybe it doesn't happen this time (sorry for my English btw)

  9. I cant seem to get the options to active the mod to come up. I have it set to allow any lot at the city hall. But when I click the school or workplace I want to use it doesn't come up. I have the 4.3.1.

    1. Are you clicking on the rabbithole or the lot? For the options to appear, you have to click on the lot you want to assign the career to, not the rabbithole.

  12. Hi! I need help, my Sims won't attend University Classes with this mod in. It pushes them to class cancels the action then they refuse to go and I keep getting the message that it isn't time for class yet. Then nothing.

    I mean, I go to a lot, go to Zebru, choose what lot I want it to be, and than, nothing happens. Should I put a building there, or what?

    1. It shouldn't conflict :) if for some reason you travel somewhere a work day is still going on, it will automatically end.

You were right.It didn't conflict with traveler mod.I used it for film career and it worked fine for me.Could you please add computer writing interaction and practice speech with mirror interaction as work object for film career in the next version of your mod?Because directing branch requires writing skill and acting branch requires charisma skill for performance boost in film career.

  20. Got it to work somewhat, but it still only works half the time. For some reason my game won't force my sim to go to the lot, it just does whatever it wants (which sometimes is going to the lot).

  21. Hi Zerbu,

    1st of all this mod is amazing! I really enjoy seeing my Sims at work lol XD
    But I think I found a little bug! The Zerbu menu only appears on lots that were already placed in the world. As soon I added my own empty lot 30x30 and created a community building on it and then clicked on it, nothing appeared, except Visit (Lot name) What can I do to fix that?

    Again thank you so much for this mod, I don't even need to place the rugs! the sims go to the working places anyway, even without the rugs.

    1. Did you click on the wall of the building, than should Zeberu show? Only EA buildings have Zeberu in their menue - this is not a bug - he designed it like this.
      If clicking on the wall don´t work:
      Maybe it works, if you activate Zeberu --> allow career -->on any lot on the townhall. Somewhen I clicked on it and every new building had Zeberu, when I clicked on the wall of the building.

  24. My Sim still disappears right after he enters a rabbithole building (hospital). I cannot have him to work in a open workplace, what did I do wrong? Please help.

    Thanks for this wonderful mod of yours, I really like it very much. The idea of replacing those rabbitholes and making them actual workplaces is brilliant.

    As I am an avid visitor on the Nraas Wiki known as J4Ks, I've posted a thread over there http://nraas.wikispaces.com/share/view/67366756 and am planning to make a permanent short guide, how to make those Zerbu's career operational in anyone's game. Hopefully this can help the few or the many, who are struggling with it. Hope you do not mind?

    On another note, I am curious if you are willing to share your source of your Ultimate Career mod with Nraas Coders, as it peaked their interest. Of course we understand if you don't want too, being it your project and we dearly respect you for whatever decision you take. But hopefully you understand that we had to ask.

  34. Has anyone had sims get pushed to use items that increase performance? The students in my schools are pushed to practice writing, but their performance drops as though they aren't doing anything. Is there a way to fix it?

  36. Zerbu, thank you for this mod. Is it still possible to associate a sims custom career to another career so that they will be pushed to use those objects? I am trying to follow Cinderellimouse tutorial but she used version 3.5.0 and the menu has changed. It seems that now when I click the wall I am able to add a career/school then choose the name of the rabbit hole of that career. That's it. (I want my teachers and students at my school to use objects from the fortune teller career).

  37. Do you use rugs for rabbit holes in your Game? I encountered the same problem after I put rugs and CCmagic as launcher in the game. After I took them out the Zerbu Menu was back. I tought a while about it and I don´t think it is the launcher, because it worked before fine with the launcher. If it isn´t this, it can be caused maybe from changing the settings for Zerbu on the Town Hall. Especially "enable on every lot" caused sometimes problems and changes the setting of the community lot to a private house. I hope this can help a little bit. I myself am short before giving up. I tried for so many days so hard to get this work, but my sims have no progression in their work performance. I would be so happy, if anybody could help me. I deinstalled the whole game and currently nothing else is installed despite the mods for zerbu, but without success :-((((.

  38. DEAR ZERBU,

    your Mod is really everything I dreamed of, I should give you a hug to appreciate your work, but I really need your help. I am trying since 4 days with less sleep to bring this to work. I hate and love your mod as much as I can and till now I can´t give up.
    Here is the Problem: My Sims go to the assinged lot and other sims too. But after days no progression. I read about the problem from other people, but they gave up easily and nobody found an answer or even tried to discuss it. I did really much. I reinstalled the whole game and cleared the registry of the pc. I made a new EA folder and I didn´t install anything dispite your mods and all NRAAS Stuff. Some smaller Issues were solved after that, but no progression at work. How many Sim days do I have to wait. What can cause the problem? Is it in the End, that I don´t have university, even you said, it would still work? The crazy thing is, that the negativ progression works pretty fine and I installed a mod to not let this happen.
    Nevertheless thanks, because it is a great Mod!

    IF ANYBODY HAS A SOLUTION I WOULD BE REALLY HAPPY!!!
